Theo Eshetu has worked in media art since 1982, exploring various formats from essay documentaries to video installations, with a specific engagement in inter-cultural relations, to reflect on how electronic media shapes and forms identities and perceptions.

Eshetu received his degree in Communications in London and moved to Rome to develop his career as a video artist. His work has been shown at numerous film and video festivals and he has received awards at the Berlin Video Festival, the International African Film Festival, Milan, video art festival in Locarno. Commissioned by the International Center of Photography in New York, he participated at  “Snap Judgments”, presented also at the Stedelijk Museum and the National Gallery of Canada among others and has participated in international art shows includes “Die Tropen” held at the Martin Gropius-Bau in Berlin and the National Gallery of Cape Town, ‘Sense of Time’ at the Los Angeles County Museum and the Smithsonian Museum for African Art and numerous biennales including Venice and Kochi-Muziris in 2011. He was in Documenta14. Recipient of the DAAD artists in residence 2012,  Eshetu lives and works between Rome and Berlin.
