Opening Wednesday, 12 Dec 2018, 19:00 Werner Heegewald Director of the Akademie der Künste Archive Olaf Stüber Festival Director As an art historian and curator Wulf Herzogenrath decisively contributed to the establishment of video art in Germany. He donated his exeptional archive to the Akademie der Künste. In addition to a conversation moderated by Franziska Stöhr as part of the symposium „Future Continuous Present(s),“ an exhibition shows documentation on video art as well as some early works, accompanied by photos, letters, and installation designs from the exceptional study collection in the Herzogenrath archive. The focus of this review is on documenta 6, for which Herzogenrath curated a new, independent section of video art in 1977. His collection of artists’ guestbooks with original dedications is being presented to the public for the first time—living testimonies to his numerous professional as well as private encounters with artists since the late 1960s.
